Welcome to my portfolio, where I share drawings I have made.
I am self-taught. I make traditional art, and mainly draw animal commissions.
My preferred mediums are graphite, coloured pencils, pen and ink, and watercolours. I also like printmaking (intaglio especially), but this requires resources I don't usually have access to.
Something I was nervous about drawing, because I'd never drawn a cow before. It is a drawing of one of my minister's favourite cows. It was quite difficult to draw because there was so much white space and it needed to be on a white background, but I did my best.
My first ever attempt at a coloured pencil drawing. I asked my classmates for some photographs of their animals to use as references, because I want to start drawing more again, and I liked this one the most. I decided to try coloured pencils whenever my test sketch in graphite didn't seem to translate very well. I'm not very proud of it, and I wasn't really sure how to shade in the white areas, but I'm glad I tried coloured pencil out instead of letting it continue to scare me.
Standard graphite pencil drawing on paper. A drawing of a Maine Coon an old friend used to own. This was my first ever attempt at drawing fur properly, and as a result I think I was too timid to add the contrast that I should have, but I'm still pretty happy with the cat's face and ears. The photograph provided is not of its fully finished state.
A birthday gift that I gave to my brother, who has a fondness for deer. The white space on the antlers is meant to signify snow, but it doesn't translate well without a background, which I didn't want to add. Fur is hard to draw.
A Valentine's gift that I framed. This photograph was taken a while before I finished it completely. The perspective in the photograph that I worked from for this was rather strange, and certainly not optimal, but I liked how expressive the eyes were in it, so I stuck with it anyway.
Something I made whilst testing out drypoint etching, which I found I really enjoyed. Printmaking in general is a lot of fun, but I preferred this to lino cutting and monoprinting. To produce this piece, I etched the reversed image into plastic, applied black ink into the grooves produced, and then I pressed the sheet of plastic against damp watercolour paper.
